A friend of mine came up with a creative fundraising idea for a Portland nonprofit. I sold "naming rights"
for a fictional character in my next story—and amazingly, people actually bid
on it! It reads:
"LET IT BE KNOWN…
...that the bearer of this note has the 'distinction' of
having his or her name used as an important character in author Bart King’s
forthcoming novel. As said author is currently responsible for a number of vile
volumes, the bearer should bear in mind that it’s entirely possible that he or
she will be linked forever to a book titled something like The Accordionist's
Second Cousin.
So it shall be written . . . so it shall be done!
