All aboard the Book Boat!

My friend Doug alerted me to this cool classroom where readers get to get into their very own boats to read. What a great bunch of gulls and buoys! After seeing this, I went down to the Container Store to "try on" some boats for size, but they kicked me out.

Portland's first day of school snuck up on me.

But now, I'm noticing something different in the air...

Hey, I have a good idea...

Let's all enroll for school at Hinds Community College! Sure, it's in Mississippi. But look, you can take e-classes anywhere. Even a goat can be a student!

CORRECTION: The goat is not a student.

A sign that school's starting soon!

School's starting soon, so this 15-foot sign was erected outside Howe Elementary School (Culver City) to clarify student drop-off rules.
I'm imagining a dad pulling over to puzzle this out. After taking notes and diagramming various flow charts, he smacks his forehead: "So, no parking 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays!"

Then he gets a ticket for parking illegally, natch!

You said it!

Tom Angleberger points out that even though this middle school's sign is broken, it still perfectly captures the middle school experience.

I ain't gonna follow this coz we wozn't gonna learn how to speak good.

A British school has banned slang in order to improve student speech.

This is at the Harris Academy Upper Norwood, if you must know. And the staff there believe that not using words such as “ain't”, “coz”, and “like” will help students to “express themselves confidently and appropriately”.

Pupils heard using informal language will be asked to “reflect” on it without using language like “this sucks” or “@#$%!”. (Via the BBC.)
